It can, and I tried to amend my comments b/c like any "best of" list, everyone's interpretation of "overrated" is similarly subjective.

I'd put 2/26/77 ahead of a gazillion shows in almost any other year --it's a great show-but it gets my vote for "overrated" precisely because it shows up #1 on a best of 77 list. No way in heck do i think that show ranks anywhere in the top 10 of 77 and so I call it overrated.

and yes, the Mosque belongs in top ten of 77 fer sure in my book.

So i agree with everything you say. But as you say both overrated and what one thinks is great can be extremely subjective. Moreover if shows are great does it matter whether they "overrated?" Would you not listen to or recommend others to not to listen to the Swing because lots of people think its the best of a year? It kind of makes this exercise a bit fruitless imo.

Well since we are on the Swing did you go back and listen to the Eyes>Dancing?

Oh, I didn't even have to. I very much agree the EYES from that show has a wonderful quality and as you point out a sweet bass run by Phil leading into Dancin'.

One problem i guess i have w/that show--again, the subjective issue you brought up--is that I never cared for the Dead's version of Dancin'...no matter what the show or year...so that sequence doesn't thrill me as much as it might some others.

and no way would I ever NOT recommend the Swing show...just,as R&B points out about my fave of 10/29, it just doesn't cut it for me as one of the very best of that year, and so...overrated. But ultimately this proves your point about the overrated discussion itself being problematic and confusing. Better to simply point to what we each feel are truly GREAT shows in any given year.

(did I mention I really enjoy the mellow groove of the H>S>F from 2/26/77? :-)
